SSOWARY Cassowary may be the only bird who has killed humans intentionally. These non-flying birds have a hollow bony helmet on the top of their head called a casque and large clawed feet.
Cassowary can weight up to 100 lbs and be up to 5.9 feet tall.
Cassowary calls use one of the lowest frequencies of any bird. Cassowary can leap up and strike out with their 5 inch long claws. One of the first recorded fatalities was in Australia in 1926. Phillip McClean tripped while fleeing a Cassowary and the bird delivered a fatal blow to his neck when he was on the ground. In Bird Brain, a Cassowary who is guarding his nest, charges the boys and almost kills them.
ALBATROSS Southern Royal Albatross can live up to 42 years and have a wingspan of up to 11 feet. They can fly 10,000 miles in a single journey, can fly 50 m.p.h and have tubes in their beaks that excrete salt so they can drink from the ocean on their long flights. Folklore says albatross can bring luck to mariners but if you have one 'around your neck', it means you have a big problem which you cannot escape.
In Bird Brain, Oliver starts by seeing his brother Soren as a pain around his neck but slowly realizes that Soren has gifts he hasn't ever noticed.
